It's a Jungle Down Here by Ronna vonKnorring

A safe zone in the Jungle

I haven't submitted a new blog lately because I feel I am limited to what my blog topics can be! It's driving me crazy! The reality is once you have something "out there" in cyber land, not only is it there to stay, but anyone with any computer skills at all can access it.

So, I can't blog about my job, like I had hoped, because I really LIKE the managers of the establishment. For me to blog about my job there would be 'bad for business' for them I'm sure. But the good news/bad news is that they won't be in charge of the hotel much longer. As of August they are giving up their lease and moving on to other areas of employment. So at that point, maybe I can dish a little on what my experiences have been like working in the tropics at a hotel. Until then, I'll try to find some safe zone topics to share about my job. For now I'll just say, I still have it, I still love it, and it is keeping me sane!

Also I can't blog much about my life at Rocky Top, in my tropical shelter of a home for various reasons. Mainly not to upset my man-mate. He is fully aware of the issues I have with the rudimentary style of our home and there really isn't much he can do to change things. We can't tear down our house and rebuild. He's not allowed to have new storage buildings built to store the junk, and he can't become a non-slob/collector overnight. And basically things that I would like to do to change and/or improve about our living arrangements are just not as important as other things going on (nor do we have the money for said improvements). So I endure.

I'm so glad I've come to enjoy a glass (or few) of wine in the evenings. Helps me sleep! ;-)

I can't blog about the fact that we have had one or more of Ken's sons living with us full time for most of the past three years. They are great young men and their dad LOVES having them around constantly, but they are young MEN. That means a LOT of burping, swearing, crude jokes and FARTING. NON STOP FARTING. The louder the better. The stinkier they are, the more hilarious it is ... to them ... and to their aging dad, my man-mate, who tries to keep up with them.

URG!

However, I CAN blog that my cousin Steven is coming to visit me in just two weeks and bringing along is girlfriend Emily who I am super excited to meet. He will be my second family member to come see me in Costa Rica. So far, my mom has been my only other family member to venture down! I can't wait to spend some time with Steven and Emily and do as many fun things as we can while they are here!

I CAN blog that I was able to watch the KU Jayhawks win their 2nd National NCAA Championship in 20 years! I was a Lawrence resident in 1988 when they last won the title and there was a big parade in their honor. This year, I was able to catch the game at the hotel where I work on that Monday night! ESPN came in live and loud.... and in ENGLISH. I was thrilled beyond measure! What a game huh? Mario is my hero!

I CAN blog that the rainy season has begun. Bats roosting in our home at night indicate the daily rains are just around the corner. The bats have been visiting us nightly for a couple of weeks and the evening showers have become more regular. I love the rain! I LOVE that I have a lot of books to read and recipes to try during the down pours.

I CAN blog that I am forever grateful that we have internet in our home. Getting the daily emails from friends and family makes it seem like I'm not as far away as I am.

I CAN blog that I have recently become addicted to Facebook! I thought it was just for college age kids, but I guess now it's for EVERYONE and I'm addicted! Playing a little Facebook Texas Hold 'Em poker is a great stress reliever to go with my glass of wine each night. Gotta love the INTERNET!

I started a blog sometime ago, and need to dig it out and revise it. I listed all the special things from "home" that I have here in the jungle with me. It's having those items around that help make my life easier and/or happier whenever I use them and/or see them. A blog about JOY and what items do it for me. I'm pretty sure that is a SAFE topic for a future blog!
