Party Line by Michelle Churchill

Westchester Man

Posted by Michelle Churchill on May 29th, 2007

The last few dates have been more than unusual, and I thought it was time for a bit of a break. I needed to take a breath, to step back and be one with my hot flashes. I still perused mail from possible suitors and even responded to a few but for the most part they were the usual inappropriate suspects.

One night as I was perusing I received an e-mail that took me by surprise. Westchester Man was age appropriate. His pictures were handsome and his e-mails were warm, funny and charming. After the exchange of a few e-mails we agreed to move on to an instant messaging session. IMs can be naughty or nice. This particular IM session was nothing short of fun. I actually laughed out loud at some points and even traveled down the path with him as our messages became playful and then naughty.

Then we moved the conversation to the phone and on to phone sex. I surprised myself! What was I thinking? I think he was surprised as well. Westchester Man seemed a bit buttoned down but the anonymity of the Web and the phone combined with a glass or two of wine somehow made us both feel freer.

In spite of the boundary that we had crossed I heard from him the next day and he asked me out for lunch. I thought he was remarkably charming and was happy to accept an invitation to dine with the man I had so easily chatted with the night before.

I was excited at the prospect of meeting this handsome and funny man. I took the time to dress up a bit and donned a black tailored suit, heels and a frilly white blouse that showed a bit of cleavage. It was having a good hair day and my makeup looked great. I was ready for a real date.

Westchester Man selected a lovely Italian restaurant in the theater district and was waiting at the door for me when I arrived a few minutes late. You never know what will actually be waiting for you, but there he was, more handsome than his photos in a beautiful dark blue suit. We were shown to our table and chatted easily through lunch. When the meal was over it was clear we were not quite ready to part. The weather was beautiful so, after stealing a kiss as we left the restaurant, he asked if I’d like to take a walk in Central Park. My next appointment wasn’t for a couple of hours so I happily agreed.

It was a beautiful day, and we were both overdressed for a stroll in the park. We wandered over to Sheeps Meadow and sat down in the soft grass. We continued to laugh and to chat about life and love lost. A few more kisses through the laughter and then it was time to go. He walked me out of the park and down into the subway station. We rode the train a couple of stops together then with a quick kiss I said goodbye and went back to work.

I definitely want to go out with Westchester Man again. I hope he feels the same.
