Blue Skirt: Seeing the light

There’s an old saying that goes, “a conservative is a liberal who’s been mugged.” So what is a liberal? A conservative who has seen the light, I say, and one of the more successful ones is Arianna Huffington, founder of the popular Huffington Post (www.huffingtonpost.com). As my grew-up-Catholic husband says of his former faith, “when we lapse, we lapse with a vengeance.” I guess one could say the same thing about conservatives.
There are a lot of Republicans who have become Democrats, over the years, and vice versa. But in most of those cases, the switch was one of mere party affiliation. For these folks, their core beliefs remained the same. It was the party that had moved away from them.
In Huffington’s case, and to her credit, it’s a little of both.
