Lawrence chiropractor Mikell Adams was new to gardening when she purchased her home eight years ago, but she has managed to turn her formerly barren yard into an oasis, complete with water features and statues. “Some days, I deal with more pain than others, so it is nice to come home to the garden where there isn’t any pain,” she says.

Mikell Adams’ garden boasts plenty of three-dimensional art. “My art keeps me company and it portrays my personality, which is something plants cannot necessarily do,” she says.
