Peeking in on 50 years of "learn as I go" is helping me to reflect on many things. Perhaps it’s my desire for transformation in one or more parts of my life that inevitably leads me onto a path of deeper commitment to my true self.
The Mother Earth has been an amazing nurturing presence along the path, and every time when in doubt, this living source guides me to my heart. The wonderful aromatic and mysterious energy guides me to the source of love. In truth, is there anything more profound in a higher experience than love? Love makes the world go round. Love has the power to spontaneously heal. Love connects us to our soul. If we sing it with the Fab Four, we know — all we need is love (well, maybe we need chocolate too)!
But what I want you to think about is: how do you live love?
In the month of February, love traditionally is celebrated on February 14, as Valentine’s Day. In my family, we call it "Happy Love Day." In the plant community of essential oils, this energy can be found in the aromatic expression of a vintage rose. Rose is Mother Nature’s flower goddess or spirit messenger for true love, devotion, commitment and spiritual beauty. Rose calls forth the divinity that lives within each of us, the essence of love.
So, here’s food for thought. Imagine what the world would be like if we could share and experience love all the time. And, if to the best of your ability, you already do, how are you being of service to share the wisdom of love you already live?
One of my favorite ways to express my love and gratitude is by creating and sharing essential oil blends, elixirs and potions of all types. Not only do they contain the qualities of the plant’s essence, they can hold the intention set forth within them through words of empowerment. To celebrate one of the most positive and heart-warming times of year, try this as your pass-around-Valentine's gift to share. First, decide how many friends and family members you wish to surprise (don’t forget your special friend or lover!), and then if you like, double the number. Extend your capacity to give.
Gather a few supplies like ribbon or raffia, small bottles — dram size (1/8 oz.) would be perfect, organic cold-pressed vegetable oil, and of course don’t forget a bottle of rose essential oil or absolute. High quality rose oil or absolute is very expensive, but a little will go a long way. Bulgarian Rose Absolute is one of my favorites because it has a deeply sensual and well-grounded quality to its fragrance that has staying power.
Add three drops of absolute to each bottle, fill the rest of the way with vegetable oil (jojoba is great too), seal up tight — all the while as you are singing "all you need is love, la, la, la, la, la!" Write a few words on how you affirm your love on small pieces of paper. Truly think about what energy you wish to send out into the world. Think about how you can share the wisdom of love that has worked for you.
Tie the small papers onto the elixir bottles – and there you have it, a creative message of love in a bottle for those you care for and for those you may reach in the circle of humanity. Advise everyone who receives this precious gift to place a dab on the wrist and on the heart, inhaling and releasing with the breath, the energy of love set forth with the sacred intention created. If you doubled your number, give out two to the same person and tell them to pass one forward to someone they care for!
Happy Love Day to all of you. Heck, let’s make it Happy Love All Year Long! I’m in.
