No more losing the perfect lip color

I recently had a slight existential lipstick crisis. Let me explain.

Although I have worked in makeup for 20 years, when it comes to myself, I am pretty much a minimalist. Indeed, my mother and my coworkers are often puzzled by my lack of makeup; most days, my routine consists of only foundation, groomed brows and most importantly, lipstick (I am including gloss here, too). And I own a lot of lipstick. I must own at least 60 lipsticks (not including gloss here), 55 of which are all some sort of beige. But I only really use two or three of those 60, and when I went to replace one I had used completely, I found the color had been discontinued.

I don’t usually panic about much, and I appreciate that there are more important things in the world to be concerned about than the color of my lips on any given day, but in that moment, I had to stop.

What would I do?

Where could I find my lipstick?

What could I mix to get this color?

How many lipsticks would I have to hunt through to find this shade?

How would this affect my routine?

Would I have to find a new lip liner?

And then I remembered, I didn’t have to worry. I just needed to call my friends at Three Custom Color. They specialize in recreating discontinued lipstick — texture, color, shine — you name it, they can do it.

They can also create any color you desire. Yes, there is a Babette gloss, a perfect shade of coral pink, if I do say so myself, since I was the one who created it. But back to my lip color crisis. I sent what little remained of my lipstick to them, and in two weeks time, my makeup bag contained two custom tubes of color that perfectly matched my old lipstick.

Crisis averted. I was back in business.

Visit them on the Web at www.threecustom.com. Tell them I sent you. While you are there, check out their concealers and warm pink lipliner ... two more things to love from the color geniuses at Three Custom.

I am so glad to know about this. Thanks, Babette! Now if I could only find the old tube of THE perfect lip color from years ago. It was an Almay brand, of all things, silver tube. No idea what the color name was. But it was perfect. Sigh...

Tawny Spice in a gold tube by Elizabeth Arden. I went to my local Arden cosmetic counter and asked for it and the consultant looked at me like I fell off a turnip truck. She didn't even bother looking. It was THE perfect red. Thanks for the tip!!! Now Tawny Spice can be resurrected from the ancient past of the mid-1990's.
