Lavender: Friendship & the essence of emotional union

For those of you who don’t know, the season of autumn signifies a passage of time for honoring friendship, divine femininity and in particular those relations, which are most sacred — for turning inward and honoring the balance within. We all know by now that friendship makes us happier and healthier, literally, with the good feeling hormones these relationships physically have the ability to produce and release in our bodies. There’s nothing in the world more healing than spending the day with your best girlfriend chatting, laughing, hugging and even crying if that’s what needs to happen. I certainly know I couldn’t live without mine!

Women allow — instinctually women are about being, giving, and receiving. Women naturally love, and women love to feel love. Women want to feel safe and within the center of their relations like the feeling of being wrapped in a warm soft blanket. On a soul level women are watery — emotional, intuitive, nurturing, strong and creative. When you cycle with the seasons of Mother Earth you learn the time of autumn resonates with the element of water, a powerful time for the natural laws of creating balance. A time for settling with emotions of the heart and moving on from past stories that bind.

Lavender is a plant medicine that holds this same level of organic maturity and helps one to be in unison with what is. Good medicine for anyone, all the way around. Even when traveling in the south of France, you simply can’t miss the relationship of harmony and co-creation that exits between the bees and the seemingly endless fields of Lavender. They hum. When you make the twists and turns of the mountains that lead into the villages of Provence, down in the valley a purple patchwork of Lavender appears as if to be a blanketed quilt of spirit’s perfect grace, something you never forget once you experience it.

The spirit of Lavender, the reflective nature of elemental water and the experience of deep meaningful relationships have helped me to understand the concept of emotional union and why we must have respect for the energy this holds, to understand how this can affect our health. It’s important to be touch with our inner self, to be aware of mood leaks, and to understand how this can affect others. Emotions are powerful carriers and it is possible to take on that, which is not our own by what, is known as the brain’s aptly named ‘mirror neurons’.

These neurons fire up in response to others emotions, and we then can catch their feelings as something infectious, good or bad! It can be an unconscious tendency to mimic the emotions of others. Lavender is one plant that can help keep this in check simply by inhalation, firing up the olfactory nerve that does indeed communicate with the brain, the body and the emotions to seek the path of equilibrium with no adverse reactions to our health.

I found a passage recently in one of my journals that read, “People usually unite with someone with whom they can feel some measure of sureness and thereby a greater measure of security, and sometimes, we are drawn to those who can help us learn from our karmic path. This allows us to cross into areas of development in which subtler levels of feeling are available. However, if we hold on to sameness as the only criterion for union we limit contact with other races, cultures, and ultimately other species of intelligent life.”

Mother Nature partners with the subtle realms and the feelings these realms mirror, as part of the journey, for expressing pure emotion as the true spiritual beings we naturally are. The plant realm is a species of intelligent life with whom we can develop a relationship for the creation of global reception and personal well-being. It’s about the Gaia principle, or the spiritual essence of the physical being we all know as Mother Earth and the blessings offered from all that she gives.

The organic plant chemicals and aromatic intelligence of Lavender is one that personifies emotional union and balance for body, mind, and spirit. The energy is known as the grandmother of all healing oils. The versatility of this essence is without boundaries or limitations, and can show great compassion in a time of need. Lavender soothes the soul like a good friendship nurtures and supports the heart. Place one to two drops of quality Lavender essential oil on the center of your heart and breathe deeply, a peaceful harmony from inside the soul of the flower. Be contagious with hope and optimism, all things that bring joy. This in turn gives back a small bit of steadiness to the world. Make it real.

Peace and love, Terre
