Win this special edition of Billy Joel's "The Stranger"

Although I admired his musicianship and many of his songs (especially "She's Got a Way"), I was never a rabid Billy Joel fan. Maybe that's why I'm willing to sacrifice this fabulous boxed set to the reader who tells me the best Billy Joel story.

Just released by Legacy Recordings, the 30th Anniversary Edition of "The Stranger" includes two CDs - one, the original album and the other, "Live at Carnegie Hall". It also includes a 90-minute DVD, including a 30-minute documentary on the making of "The Stranger" and concert footage of Joel singing some of his greatest hits.

To win, simply leave your best Billy Joel story (a concert memory, why you love a certain song, etc.) in the Comments section below. (You must be a registered user to leave a comment.) Or, send your entry to feedback@boomergirl.com. Be sure to put 'Billy Joel' in the subject line, and I'll post it for you using your first name only.

In the meantime, here's a good piece on the story behind "The Stranger" from CNN today.

I've got a great Billy Joel story, but it's probably not fair for me to tell you one. Maybe we can turn it into a podcast.

I wish I had a good story because I'm a big fan. But if I had a nickel for every time I heard "I love you just the way you are" played at a wedding,,I'd be a wealthy woman.

The big song in my Catholic high school was "ONly the good die young" and we'd sing that line "Catholic girls start much too late..." and laugh and laugh because it was NOT true.

My husband and I had a friend sing "Just the Way You Are" with a jazzy beat at our wedding because we were so sick of attending friends' weddings where the syrup was a foot deep. Our older relatives were horrified, which probably was part of the point. Mercy, we were young!

I have loved Billy Joel since I first heard "The Stranger." When he married Christy Brinkley, I thought he'd lost his mind - mostly because he hadn't met me yet. I was apparently right.... and he still hasn't met me.

About 15 years ago, he was in concert in Denver and I took my then 13-year-old daughter and her cousin, my niece, then 17. I totally rocked out. I knew every word to every song. I whooped and hollered and whistled and danced. Pretty much made a dang fool of myself - and had a blast. They sort of sat there looking uncomfortable.

When we were leaving the concert, my daughter and niece wouldn't walk out with me; they followed several steps behind. Later my daughter took me aside and said solicitously, "Mom, I know you like this guy, but he's really old. He could never keep up with you."

What's so hilarious is, I'm older than he is!
