Best workout playlist ever

I couldn't conceive of getting on that blankety-blank treadmill this morning with the same ol' tired playlist. So, I delved into iTunes and hastily click-and-dragged an hour's worth of fresh music into "workout3." Wow! That playlist was the swift kick in the pants I desperately needed.

On Tuesday, I blogged about a recent study that recommends an hour of moderate exercise a day for women wanting to lose weight. OK. Fine, I thought. I'm ready to donate an hour of time to the cause. But to go the distance, I'm going to need to switch up my music and keep it fresh.

Playlists are hard to get just right but, miraculously, "workout3" seems to have hit all the right notes and tempos for me. The songs will date me, for sure, but I'll share them with you, if you promise to send me your favorite exercise songs for "workout4".

"There She Goes" - the La's 2:42

"A Change Would Do You Good" - Sheryl Crow 3:50

"Would I Lie to You" - Eurythmics 4:25 (Sure to get your pulse rate up. Love Annie Lennox!)

"Clocks" - Coldplay 5:07

"Mamma Mia" - ABBA 3:33 (I know. But the pace is perfect at this point.)

"Cry Me a River" - Joe Cocker 3:57 (Don't get this one confused with Ella's version. Joe Cocker rocks it!)

"Let It Rain" - Eric Clapton 5:03

"Our Lips Are Sealed" - the Go-Go's 2:46 (Love those girls!)

"Delta Lady" - Joe Cocker 2:51

"Newborn Friend" - Seal 4:02

"Where to now, St. Peter?" - Elton John 4:11 (You might not remember this one but it's one of my faves. From "Tumbleweed Connection")

"If You Love Somebody (Set them free)" - Sting 4:57

"All I Wanna Do" - Sheryl Crow 4:32

"Late in the Evening" - Paul Simon 3:55 (The drum solo screams for a shimmy!)

"And She Was" - Talking Heads 3:38

"Get on the Good Foot" - James Brown 3:35 (Try not imagine the "Celebrity Hot Tub' sketch on SNL when you're treading to this one!)

"Jazzman" - Carole King 3:47

"My Favorite Mistake" - Sheryl Crow 4:07 (Sexy cool-down song, just the right pace. Love it!)

That sounds like a good one. Unfortunately, I rely on my busy duaghter to make mine and I've been stuck with an all-MOTOWN playlist forever. Thank you for reminding me about Tumbleweed Connection. IT was a great album!

I am embarassed to admit, I am a huge Justin Timberlake fan. That's what you'll find on my I-Pod, along with Van MOrrison.

Good for you! I take mine to the indoor pool. I try to go when it's not busy. I've taught aqua aerobics for 20 years and I love the way the pool stretches me, relaxes me, and exercises me without impact to my fibromyalgia, arthritis, and bad knees. I get lost in my thoughts as I think about being on the beach in Honolulu or Maui and when my kids were young how busy I was. I start out slow, then work out jogging and jumping jacks, next I do laps and really jog hard in deep water. An hour can pass so quickly when you are doing what you love and water is so relaxing than I come away refresed. I have done this since I was 32. By the way, I'm a size 10-12, not afraid to get in a suit and wouldn't care who saw anyway after giving birth to 3 sons I'm proud of my body!

it really is hard to get a playlist just right, I always feel like I have to stride "on the beat". I havent' heard of some songs listed but recognize many of them. For my money, it's Michael Jackson from before he went crazy!

Karen, your water workout sounds wonderful. Wish I could take your class some time. Do you have a waterproof iPod? I need one of those for the mineral baths I'm headed to in New Mexico...
