Driving back from lunch, I spied this sign and said out loud (I was alone in the car at the time): "Wow! Only three forty-five a gallon!" "Only," I said. ONLY three forty-five.
After topping the four dollar mark not that long ago, is it any wonder a person would go ga-go when the price of gas slips below $3.50? It was an exciting moment, I tell you. One that made me want to see how prices in other parts of the country were faring.
MapQuest has a a new feature (actually, it's new to me; I'm not sure how old it is) that allows you to check the prices of gas in any zip code across the country. It also helps you find the lowest gas prices in your neighborhood...what's not to love about that?
A quick search found the "lowest" per-gallon prices in the following randomly selected cities:
Hollywood CA $3.71
Seattle WA 3.71
Miami FL 3.63
Minneapolis MN 3.41
Wood Ridge NJ 3.31
Dallas TX 3.21
Suddenly, my little $3.45 doesn't sound all that great. But, I'll still take it!

On the way to Nashville last week, we saw gas for $3.39 in Columbia, MO. And I swear while we were in Nashville we passed a place where it was $3.17. Had a full tank or we would've gone back. Sounds like it's lower in the South.

Today gas was running about $3.43 in the Baltimore area. After weeks of seeing it in the $4. range, it doesn't sound too bad!

These hurricans are not doing us any favors, unfortunately. Hopefully, the prices will hold "low".
