When the Bertolli people contacted me to see if I'd review their new "restaurant inspired" instant sauce product on BoomerGirl, I said, "Sure, send it on. I'll try anything once." There was just one problem - the product was a PASTA sauce and I am seriously off carbs.
The pouches of champignon and portobello mushroom sauce soon arrived at my office. I promptly took them home and stored them out of reach in the kitchen cupboard. "Some day," I said, "maybe the Pasta Fairy will come and leave me a pot of fresh penne on the stove. Then, I'll HAVE to try the sauce."
Fast-forward weeks later to last night when I spotted one of the pouches high on the shelf, and a brilliant idea occurred: Hmm, champignon and portobello sauce! What a lovely accompaniment to my low-carb meatloaf!
I clipped the corner of the pouch and stuck it in the microwave on 'high'. Ninety seconds later, I had a delicious tomato-based sauce to ladle over my meatloaf. I'm sure it would have been even better with a healthy side of penne but - hey - I'l take what I can get. I give it my coveted 4-ladle (out of 5) rating!
Go to the Bertolli Web site for more info and a downloadable, dollar-off coupon.
Bon appetit!

Try one of the other pouches on spaghetti squash or in ratatouille.

Chloe,
Thanks. Never thought of that, and spaghetti squash is one of my favorites!
