Talbots and the BoomerGirl conundrum

USA Today confirms it. Retailers are finally realizing that women in their 40s, 50s and 60s aren't into frump. And even tired, old Talbots is undergoing an extreme makeover to win its boomer consumers back.

I've been saying this for years - it's not brain surgery, people! Give us stylish, modern clothes that flatter the figure and keep our jiggly bits tastefully covered. We don't want to be draped in loud patterns or sequins, and we don't need waistbands that cover the navel, or hemlines that conceal the calf! Sure, a glimpse of cleavage is sexy but we'd prefer not to be spilling out of a blouse cut down to there.

According to the article, Talbots is trying to deliver, as is Bloomingdale's. (In fact, I just bought a pair of slim black pants at Talbots and can actually see my navel when I put them on!) There's no Bloomie's in my town, so I'll check out the new Worthington line at Penney's and will report back.

Sounds like a fun assignment for the weekend!

Thank goodness for that article. I was beginning to think I was the only one who was having trouble finding clothes that I like. The only store where I've been finding some nice things lately is J Jill. Especially post season they have some great deals. I haven't been to Talbots in a while so I'll have to check it out again.
