I know that many people do not like Walmart for their hiring practices etc., but I have found that most of the employees in our local store {Spokane Washington} are very helpful. Many times when I haven't been able to locate an item that I wanted, not only have they told me where to find it, but have personally taken me to the location. Of course many of these employees aren't young 20-30 year olds either.
Before my husband retired, he worked in another city. He rented an apartment from an older lady and the three of us became fast friends. She was such a delightful character, always giving us special little treats. She was the perfect mom/grandma all rolled into one. Yes, I too got along better with her than my own mother. Whenever I would go visit it was such a fun time. I would take her shopping {something she dearly loved}. She was almost totally blind, but she knew our voices whenever we came or whenever we called I always sent food to her when he went back to work, and she loved that. Probably one of the best times she ever had was when my hubby took her for a ride in his bright green {aka Kermit} Corvette. She always thought she was the cat's meow. Sadly, her little heart gave out last spring, {she would have been 93 this November}. It seems so very strange not to have her in our lives any longer, but she truly was an angel to anyone who got the chance to meet and know her.So I agree that it is good to have friends from a different generation. They can impart so much wisdom!
I live very near to the railroad tracks .My dad was a railroad engineer for many years. He has been gone 30 years, but there are sometimes when a train goes by that I still picture him in the cab of the engine and going about his business. There are so many times that I wish he were still here to say "I love you".. I too agree that most of the cards for men are either mushy or deal with certain subjects. There are many times when I have a difficult time picking out cards for the men who are left in my life. Wish the card companies would get a clue, that not every man loves "ducks" or deer on their cards.
Almost 4 years ago, I had Lasik surgery (so did my husband) and that is one of the best things I have ever had done for me personally. No more being not able to see once inside stores, no more fogged up glasses in cold weather and being able to see first thing in the morning and wearing ordinary sunglasses. Last year when it was time to renew my license, I went to the DMV and took the eye test and passed it with flying colors. My old license had Corrective Lenses written at the bottom. When I told the examiner that I had had Lasik, she promptly said, Oh, you'll have to take another test. When she said that all of a sudden I was in a panic cause running through my brain was "What am I going to do if I can't pass this special test, beause my cheater glasses weren't going to help for distance and that was what the test was all about. To make a long story short, I did take the other test and passed it just fine, but I sympathize with people who for what ever reason don't do well on the eye test. Driving has been just a part of my life since I was 17 that should someday, I find that I couldn't pass the eye test, I would probably crawl up into a ball and hybernate for the rest of my life. By the way, since the surgery I see better at night when driving than when I wore glasses.
On the other hand there are many people who shouldn't be behind the wheel, and I often wonder how on earth did they ever get a license. Just maybe these tests will weed out those who should never be able to get behind a steering wheel and be satisfied to be a passenger only!!
I have been married to my one and only for 37 years in Sept. We were both in our mid 20's when we took our vows. We are now both retired so we see alot more of each other. He is the best man any lady could ever ask for. He never questions when I want to do something with the girls, but then I let him do what he wants. Before we married, we were living in different states so we really had to trust each other. I just knew from the moment he asked me to marry him, it was a great match. Anyway, I have him trained the way I want him, and I don't want to have to train anyone else. I too think that a divorce is much too easy to come by these days.
Boy, if having three of some thing makes it a collection then I have alot of collections including dolls, salt dishes (including one which was my paternal grandparents) and a favorite thing to buy at antique shops, lighthouses, fairies, carrousel horses. I guess I am just a collector at heart. My daughter also has her Barbie Collection at my house. Hopefully someday she come retreive it.
I went on my very first cruise two years ago to the Mexican Rivera with some of my girlfriends.(we left the husbands at home). I was in awe at how big the ship was. Two of my friends had been on many, many cruises before so I had alot of help knowing what to do. It was one of the best vacations I have ever had. I am anxiously awaiting for the next one. I agree that it was wonderful to be waited on, dress up for dinner and just to be able to relax. I made a scrapbook, and every so often I'll thumb through it and all the good memories come flooding back. Cruises are the way to go!!!!!
