I had an "ah ha" moment several months ago about women "of a certain age" and Hillary. I am close to your age and I think by the time we came along women who were willing to fight for it a little could compete in about any field they chose. But listening to women only slightly older than me, I felt a real bitterness for the opportunities they had been denied. They were in a generation that no matter what a woman did, she couldn't break through some glass ceilings. These are the women who were (are) so passionate about Clinton. If she had been nominated, it would have been a tangible sign of progress for women, which was their top priority.

On another note, I must correct the oft-repeated contention that Obama is a "Kansan by birth." His mother and grandparents were native Kansans, but Obama was born in Hawaii. Ever the editor!
